Call for Papers: 19th RCIS

Overview

The International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS) aims to bring together scientists, researchers, engineers, and practitioners in the broad field of information science. First held in 2007, the RCIS conference series provides opportunities for knowledge sharing in areas such as information systems and their engineering, user-oriented approaches, data and information management, enterprise management and engineering, domain-specific IS engineering, data science, information infrastructures, and reflective research and practice.

Conference Theme

"Advancing Information Science and Information Systems Quality in the Era of Complexity"

This theme underscores the critical importance of quality in the development, implementation, and management of information systems amidst rapid technological evolution. It invites participants to reflect on innovative practices, tools, and frameworks to ensure reliable and effective information systems in complex modern technological landscapes.

Topics of Interest

RCIS 2025 welcomes submissions across the entire spectrum of information science, including but not limited to:

  • Information Systems and their Engineering: Requirements Engineering, Model-Driven Engineering, Domain Specific Languages, Method Engineering, Quality Assurance and Testing, Software Engineering.
  • User-Oriented Approaches: Social Computing and Social Network Analysis, User-Centred Design, Collaborative Computing, Human Factors in Information Systems, Technology Acceptance.
  • Data and Information Management: Databases and Information, Information Security and Risk Management, Conceptual Modelling and Ontologies, Knowledge Graphs.
  • Enterprise Management and Engineering: Business Process Engineering and Management, Enterprise Architecture, Process Mining, Enterprise Modelling, Digital Transformation, Complexity Management.
  • Domain-specific IS Engineering: E-Health, E-Government, E-Commerce, Smart Cities, Industry 4.0 and Digital Twins, News and Media Production, Digital Humanities, Virtual Worlds.
  • Data Science: Big Data and Business Analytics, Decision Information Systems, Machine-Learning and Generative AI Applications, Information and Value Management, Misinformation and Fake News.
  • Information Infrastructures: Information Systems Quality of Service, Cyber-Physical Systems, Web Information Systems, Grid, Cloud, Fog, and Edge Computing, Internet of Things, Pervasive and Mobile Computing, Quantum Computing.
  • Reflective Research and Practice: Information Systems Quality Evaluation Methods, Impact of Information on the Enterprise and the Individual, Information Science Education, Research Methodologies in Information Science, Design Science and Rationale, Action Research and Case Studies in Information Science.

Submission Process

  • Proceedings: Published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing series. Authors must use the Springer LNCS/LNBIP conference proceedings template (available for LaTeX and Word): https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-guidelines.
  • Originality: Papers must be original and not under review for other conferences or journals.
  • Language: Papers should be in English.

Contribution Categories:

  • Technical solution papers (max 16 pages Springer): Present novel or significantly improved solutions with preliminary validation.
  • Evaluation papers (max 16 pages Springer): Evaluate problem situations or validate solutions through scientific means (empirical studies, experiments, case studies, etc.).
  • Industrial practice and experience papers (max 16 pages Springer): Detail practical problems, challenges, lessons learned, and industrial practices.

*Note: Maximum page length includes references and appendices.

Other Tracks:

In addition to the main research track, RCIS 2025 invites submissions to the following tracks: Forum, Doctoral Consortium, Research Projects, Journal First, Tutorials, and Workshops.

Submission Site:

Proposals must be submitted using the conference submission site: EasyChair, selecting the track “RCIS 2025 Main Conference”.

Presentation Commitment:

By submitting a paper, authors agree that at least one of them will register to the conference and present the paper (one paper = one registration).

Review Format:

RCIS adopts a single-blind review format, meaning author names are included in the paper.
