Overview

EMNLP 2025 invites the submission of long and short papers featuring substantial, original, and unpublished research on empirical methods for Natural Language Processing. EMNLP 2025 aims to curate a diverse technical program, accepting traditional research results, negative findings, surveys, resource announcements, position arguments, novel linguistic insights, and reproductions of previous results.

Some presentations will also include papers accepted by the Transactions of the ACL (TACL) and the Computational Linguistics (CL) journals.

Important Dates

All deadlines are 11:59 PM UTC-12:00 (“anywhere on Earth”).

Paper Submission Information

EMNLP 2025 follows a new ARR (ACL Rolling Review) cycle schedule with 5 cycles/year. Papers may be submitted to the ARR 2025 May cycle.

Papers that have received reviews and a meta-review from ARR may be committed to EMNLP via the commitment link.

Mandatory Reviewing Workload

All authors are expected to sign up to review, with assignments subsequently based on qualifications. Irresponsible reviewers may become ineligible to commit their paper(s) to EMNLP or resubmit in the next cycle. All authors must complete the author registration form by May 21, 2025.

Additional Policies

For details about reviewer incentives and policies for determining irresponsible reviewers, please see our Reviewer Policies page.

EMNLP 2025 Theme Track: Interdisciplinary Recontextualization of NLP

This year’s theme aims to highlight the need for broader connections with other fields to understand and intensify NLP’s impact. The goal is to increase awareness of how NLP advances can impact other fields and design better strategies to measure that impact.

Submissions are invited for a theme-specific track focusing on fundamental technology advances and evaluation methodology issues.

Summary of Theme Track Activities

  • Special Theme Best paper award
  • Panel discussion (special submission category)
  • Boundary-Spanning Chat sessions (special submission category)

Two Stage Review: Submission to ARR, Commitment to EMNLP

EMNLP 2025 uses ACL Rolling Review (ARR) as the primary reviewing system, with final decisions made by the conference. The process involves:

  1. Authors submit articles to ARR for review and meta-review.
  2. Authors commit their reviewed articles to a publication venue (e.g., EMNLP 2025) via Open Review for final acceptance decisions.

The reviewing process is double-blind.

Paper Submission Details

Both long and short paper submissions must adhere to all ARR submission requirements, including:

  • Long Papers: 8 pages
  • Short Papers: 4 pages
  • Instructions for Two-Way Anonymized Review
  • Authorship guidelines
  • Citation and Comparison policies
  • Multiple Submission, Resubmission, and Withdrawal Policies
  • ACL’s Publication Ethics Policy, ARR’s Ethics Policy, and the responsible NLP research checklist
  • ACL’s Disclosure Policy
  • Limitations
  • Paper Submission and Templates
  • Optional Supplementary Materials (appendices, software, and data)

Final versions of accepted papers will be granted one additional page for revisions (up to 9 pages for long papers, up to 5 pages for short papers).

Presentation at the Conference

All accepted papers must be presented at the conference to appear in the proceedings. Both in-person and virtual presentation options are available. Papers without at least one author registered by the early registration deadline may be subject to desk rejection. Accepted papers will be presented orally or as posters, as determined by the program committee.
